James Richards lives and works between Berlin and London. His moving-image works collage together material such as intimate home movies, archival footage, television signals, and musical soundtracks. Addressing the relentless flow of imagery in the twenty-first century, Richards's work carves out a space where personal politics and digital materiality meet. The artist’s recent exhibition projects informed by archival research and ongoing collaborative exchanges with other artists include Internal Litter, Galerie Isabella Bortolozzi, Berlin (2022); Alms for the Birds, Castello di Rivoli, Turin (2020); SPEED 2 (with Leslie Thornton), Malmö Konsthall (2019); and SPEED (with Leslie Thornton), Künstlerhaus Stuttgart (2018). Select group exhibitions include Penumbra, Fondazione In Between Art Film, Venice (2022); The Botanical Mind, Camden Arts Centre (2020); Whitney Biennial, New York (2017); and Less Than Zero, Walker Arts Center, Minneapolis (2016).
